The accident rates for the school buses are thankfully, very low. Considering the absolute volume of the school buses that the transport children to & from the school daily and school buses are very safe. This is possibly due to in the part to their large design and size, & slower speeds in which they are tending to travel. However, the motor vehicle accidents are still occurring on the school buses, & when they do so the consequences are irresistible for everyone whosoever is involved.
The Transportation Research Board of National Academy of Science & Engineering report that there are approx 6,000 injuries & 20 deaths per year in the U.S.A due to the school bus accidents.
The school bus designs are not changed since 1977, meaning that most of them are not outfitted with seat belt. Although 3 states namely New York, Florida and New Jersey - requires new bus to have seat belts in them but only New Jersey & Florida are actually requiring riders for their usage. NJ Personal injury Lawyers are now being fighting with the judges to make the seat belt usage & seat belts the standard in all the new buses all over the country.
